Tour of the Great North Museum

GNM Tour

The tour began with the Keeper of Archaeology talking to us about the Society of Antiquaries collection – the God of Benwell and the prehistoric arrow heads which once were thought to be fashioned by fairies. The Society along with its impressive collections resided for many years with the Literary and Philosophical Society.

We the moved on the the ethnography section with the Secretary of the Natural History Society to discuss what were once termed utensils of savage nations such as the Maori tongue which speaks only truth. Many of these items once filled the shelves of the Lit and Phil.

GNM tour 2

The Keepers and the artists will work together to create a tour of the GNM for the the Festival of the North East.
